Alzheimer
Your gaze, gradually changing,
Then sudden strange mood swings
And growing forgetfulness;
These made me open your bedside drawer;
A large notebook I discovered there;
In it a long inventory, like those of Prévert,
of all your everyday affairs:
Shopping, meetings, little trips…
And on one page: ALZHEIMER
As your memory dies,
You are cheating like a schoolgirl
Not wanting to be punished.
In this notebook you had drawn
A heart on the first page;
Next there was a wedding photograph,
A few words written hastily:
"This is my husband, I must not forget
I love him." Then I cried.
